Pickens nose is well worth the extra drive time, and not just because of the silly name that will keep your kids giggling for the whole trip. The view is absolutely stunning after a half-mile hike uphill, which is just enough to make you feel like a mountain explorer without having to break out the boots.

Wow! Wow! Wow! It is atrek along the unsaved national forest road but it is so worth it to be up among the clouds.🏔🥾

Hike the Pickens Nose Trail through a beautiful rhododendron forest to exceptional views from a craggy summit near the Appalachian Trail and Franklin, NC. Legend holds that locals Native Americans named the sharp, nose-like summit after General Andrew Pickens, a Revolutionary War veteran who was reportedly a menace to local Native American tribes. Pickens was also known for his angular, long nose.

The Pickens nose trail is a mile plus round-trip beginning is uphill with lots of rocks and roots I would call it moderate not easy but when you get to the top is smooths out very nice Lotta rhododendrons overgrowth so like being in a tunnel of Rhododendrum‘s and then there’s lots of rock cropings with lots of overlooks beautiful definitely worth the hike
