大徳寺（だいとくじ）は、臨済宗大徳寺派大本山です。 応仁の乱で荒廃しましたが、一休和尚が復興しました。三門には千利休が二層部分を寄進した「金毛閣」があります。千利休が豊臣秀吉に怒りを買った原因とされることでも知られます。

日本でも有数の禅寺。一休和尚や千利休がいたことでも有名。複数の塔頭にある枯山水の庭は特に有名。

大徳寺山内には初心者でも座禅を体験できる寺院があります。朝早起きして行ってみてはどうですか？自転車１０分。

By far my favourite place to visit if you need a fix of Buddhist temples and exquisite gardens without the crowds. Largely undiscovered by most tourists to Kyoto. You won't be disappointed. Only a 10 minute bus ride from Jam Jar, the complex consists of nearly two dozen subtemples and is one of the best places in Japan to see a wide variety of Zen gardens and to experience Zen culture and architecture. Only 4 of the sub-temples are accessible, with the best one being Daisen-ji. Stunning in Autumn/Fall or cherry blossom season.
