Mai Khao Beach is situated on the northwest coast of Phuket. This 11km-long straight beach is still blessedly undeveloped as it is part of the Sirinat National Park. The only significant constructions along it are the JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Phuket International Airport near Nai Yang Beach. The sand of Mai Khao Beach is possibly the coarsest of any on Phuket, but it's also practically deserted a lot of the time making it possible to walk for kilometres without another soul in sight. A short distance out into the water, there's a sharp drop off into the Andaman Sea, making swimming dangerous from May to November.

Mai Khao beach is in the northwest of the island of Phuket. It is Phuket’s longest beach. The area around Mai Khao beach is still very quiet and natural. Mai Khao Beach is a protected sea turtle nesting area between November and February the beach is a nesting area of sea turtle. You can also find a mole crab (sand crab) live under the surface of the sand. An airplane landing at Phuket international airport is a popular tourist attraction as well.

You can see airplanes after airplanes flying over this beach due to its proximity with the airport. The sand is coarse by Phuket standards, but it's very peaceful.

The sand of Mai Khao Beach is possibly the coarsest of any on Phuket, but it's also practically deserted a lot of the time, making it possible to walk for kilometers without another soul in sight. A short distance out into the water, there's a sharp drop off into the Andaman Sea, so take care when you're going for a cooling dip. Plane spotting is a popular activity in Phuket, thanks to the ease of access to the western end of Phuket International Airport's runway, at the southern end of Mai Khao Beach. The place is idyllic: Mai Khao Beach is almost 50 meters wide at high tide at this spot, and the turquoise colors of the sea, especially between 10pm and 2pm, offer watchers stunning photo opportunities. Every day, many people gather at the end of the runway to get their photo taken with a plane. With a capacity of 30 flights per hour at Phuket Airport, you don't need to wait for too long in between planes.

When looking for a beach to enjoy on a couples holiday, you may be more interested in the more secluded beaches on the island. There are many well kept secret beaches on Phuket, however if you are looking for somewhere easily accessible and less crowded, we recommend Mai Khao Beach. This beach is the longest in Phuket (11km), yet there are still some entirely deserted areas which are perfect if you’re looking for complete peace and relaxation. Parts of the beach are by the National Park which is one of the reasons why it remains as untouched as it is. If you are looking to enjoy a meal and refreshments on the beach, you will need to bring your own. At the moment, there are no restaurants or cafes near the beach.
