Beautiful island to visit for a half day trip. There is a ferry that takes you there. You can go snorkeling, enjoy the day at the beach and find the cute turtles that live all over the island.

Family firendly. Visitors to this island can visit its multiple beaches and working lighthouse, and explore the ruins of Fort Dade, a Civil War fort. Look out for the turtle nesting sites and protected gopher turtles, as well as a variety of seabirds. Several local charters offer ferry rides to the island, snorkeling trips, dolphin tours.

Explore the ruins of Fort Dade a Civil War Fort. The Egmont Key Ferry leaves from Fort DeSoto. It is a pristine habitat for birds, tortoises and marine life.

Now a wildlife refuge, this 440-acre island is the home to one of the last government-operated lighthouses, built in 1858, in the nation.
