If you are interested in flight, the Titan Missile Museum south of Tucson is worth a trip. Also south of Tucson is the Pima Air and Space Museum. You could do both in one day.

This is the only place in the US where you can tour a nuclear missile facility. It's dedicated to the technology, but also to how crazy the Cold War was.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to go into a missile silo meant for a Intercontinental Ballistic Thermo-Nuclear Warhead? Well wonder no longer, this place and the tour is exceptional. Very well priced as well. This location is around 20-25 minutes away from the home by car.

If you have any interest in local history, or military history, this is a nice place to visit for a few hours. You can go online and schedule a tour before going. Once there, you begin with a short video taking you through the history of how the Titan Missile was once an active missile silo and how personnel approached each day. After the video, your group will follow the tour guide below ground where you can see where the staff worked, and even up into the missile silo. There is an elevator if a person cannot handle the stairs down, but do plan on some walking and stairs. This is one of those gems of the desert, so it can be quite warm during the summer months. Make sure to bring water along. The museum is about a 10 minute drive, just hop back on the 19 going south, take the next exit, Duval Mine Rd., head west and you will see signs guiding the way.
