Named for the profusion of pink wildflowers, including mountain laurel and rhododendron, the Pink Beds is a popular destination off the Blue Ridge Parkway below Mount Pisgah. Part of the Pisgah National Forest, the Pink Beds area offers excellent hiking and is especially appealing to naturalists. The relatively flat valley is home to some very large pine trees and rare mountain bogs. An easy loop trail begins on the left side of the parking area. The elevation of the Pink Beds ranges from 2,000 feet to 6,410 feet at Richland Balsam Mountain. The surrounding area is ideal for camping, fishing, horseback riding and swimming. Visitors may also enjoy the Cradle of Forestry, adjacent to the Pink Beds loop trail.
