La Maison du Pastel

This is the oldest pastel manufacturer in the world, and a treasure trove for creatives. The shop sits in the back of a Marais courtyard, where it’s been making its famous pastel sticks since the 18th century. Isabelle, the owner, shares her secrets for creating more than 600 shades with poetic names like volcanic orange and violet dusk. The boutique is only open Thursdays 2-6 pm or by appointment.
