Malaquite Beach has a a visitor beach that includes a bookstore and an exhibit area with information about park history, plants and animals. Free programs are often available. A shaded picnic area is available on the deck. Restrooms and cold water showers are available. Wheelchair users can borrow a special beach wheelchair at no charge. There is also an accessible ramp that goes from the Pavilion down to the beach. Head east through Corpus Christi on Highway 358. After crossing the JFK Causeway onto Padre Island, Highway 358 changes to Park Road 22. Continue about 10 miles south on the Park Road 22 to reach the park entrance. There is a park entrance fee and they prefer that you pay by debit or credit card. We personally have caught the biggest red fish and drum by surf fishing. Don't forget to stop at Red Dot to grab live bait!
