Not many people know that the queen’s grocer also has a very rakish men’s department on the third floor. From a haircut at the exceptional barber’s to a traditional shoeshine, it’s all there. The room is filled with men’s accessories by the best British brands, and you can even find a selection of my Savile Row-inspired wash bags and eye masks here. The staff are the real appeal for me. They wear a very traditional uniform and know the store so well they can come up with anything you ask for. Some of them have been working in the store for decades.

This is an 18th-century department store known for its gourmet groceries including tea and posh preserves. This is well worth a browse - it's great for gifts, and you can also have some nice tea and scone here. Good to combine with a trip to the Royal Academy of Art (opposite). Open Monday to Saturday 10am to 10pm. Sunday 11.30am to 6pm.
