Big Rock is a 16,500-tonne boulder that lies on the otherwise flat, relatively featureless, surface of the Canadian Prairies in Alberta. It is part of the 930-kilometre-long Foothills Erratics Train of typically angular boulders of distinctive quartzite and pebbly quartzite.

"The Big Rock" is an enormous glacial erratic. This site is of great spiritual significance to the Blackfoot people, and the name of the erratic was derived from the Blackfoot word for rock, "okatok."

This is super interesting to learn about the long journey this huge rock took billions of years ago.

Big Rock is what Okotoks means. There's a huge piece of mountain called an Erratic sitting in a field just west of Okotoks that the 1st Nations people used as a landmark. Take Highway 7 (east and west) at south end of Okotoks. Cross street is either Southridge Blvd ( highway 2A through Okotoks) or 32nd Street (east end of Okotoks)
