For guests who have more time, love walking or fancy hiring a small outboard boat this is the perfect spot. It's a fairly large lake a little out of town (about 9 km). It's a perfect spot for a picnic or why not visit the Cafe Aquarius for lunch on the north shore. Ferries rin connecting the north shore to the Amstedamse Bos Saturdays and Sundays (and in season). Otherwise it's a walk or cycle-ride of about 5 km. See http://paviljoenaquarius.nl .

Easily overlooked, and little more than a "whole in the wall" on the street corner just off the Albert Cuypstraat market, this is certainly one of best bakers in Amsterdam. Let me recommend especially their "noten en vruchren brood" (fruit and nut loaf, a sweet dough with a good crust well seasoned with cinnamon. Beautiful if extravagant Art Nouveau interior. The main auditorium is a huge space and the features are all of them original. Do check the programme, as the old cinema is now part of a multi-screen complex, and many of the films are shown in functional if architecturally valueless smaller rooms.

See the city by canal-boat. The jetty for the Albert Cuyp Market is just opposite my house.
