Winery

A stunning place to visit ... beautiful location ... great appies ... good wine. We like their Foch Eh? We also like Andy the owner who has built the vineyard and winery himself. Just a great lunch venue for a summer's afternoon or a wine tasting in cooler climes.

Open seasonally from May to October for wine tastings that are 100% estate grown. Nestled in the Glenora region of the Cowichan Valley, Zannatta is one of our favourites. The restaurant has been closed recently, so check to see if it is open. Their appies are delicious. The family has worked this land for over 50 years, and the historic homestead will make you think you are in southern Europe. 5039 Marshall Road Duncan. 250 748 2338. zanatta.ca

Chemainus, known locally as "the little town that did" is worth a trip ... but do take the back roads of Richards Trail to get there (which I think is the prettiest road in the world!). Chemainus has found fame and fortune with its vast collection of murals most of which depict days of old with huge steam engines, logging machinery and various pioneering ways of earning a tough living. There are some quaint coffee shops, and places to acquire souvenirs (if you are still collecting?). Sometimes in the summer one can catch a horse and buggy tour about the village or you can follow the yellow feet painted on the side walk. A great afternoon outing.

A visit to Cowichan Bay is a have to have! You will find a Maritime Museum where old wooden boats are restored to their original glory, old boat engines that some of us remember from our youth, ice cream from the Udder Guys ... the Masthead restaurant that offers succulent high end dining, a hotel with a great reputation and a large government dock shielded by a breakwater that is usually swamped by hundreds of sea lions lately. There is also a kayak launch, boat ramp and very large carpark to accommodate all that. A truly picturesque location and all round a great place to go!
