Lovely views of the farm from the restaurant and always an interesting menu. For a number of months of the year, they have a sculpture art walk (it is updated each year) which is well worthwhile.

This cafe is in West Hobart which is worth checking out for it's vistas and old houses. The cafe itself serves some of the best coffee in Hobart and has a menu based on local foods from the Westons organic farm. Suitably funky (some would say hipster) and small but a great experience.

It has great pizzas belying its location and appearance. And despite some of the Facebook reviews, we have always found it pumps those pizzas out on time. We really like the vegetarian pizza.

Sightseeing

If you are a first time visitor to Hobart (or if you have been before and the weather was inclement), you should make the effort to go up to the top of Kunanyi (Mt Wellington). Choose your day as you are going for the views generally (or the snow if it has had a dump recently). The climate on the mountain is quite different to the coast so check out http://www.bom.gov.au/tas/observations/hobart.shtml to see what the winds and temperature are doing. If the weather is favourable, go up. The drive up through the different tree-scapes is great and then the view from the top is truly memorable. As good as the tourist brochures say.

Battery Point is great to walk around with no particular itinerary. You can start off at Kelly steps at Salamanca and just wander around, admire the old houses and the little lanes and the glimpses of water. You can drop by Jackman and McRoss bakery for a coffee and recharge or drop in on any of the restaurants or hotels in the area. You can even wander around to Errol Flynn park (yes, it was his original stamping ground) and stroll through Sandy Bay if you are feeling energetic.

Parks & Nature

Wellington Park has lots of great walks but so does greater Hobart. Let me plug http://www.greaterhobarttrails.com.au/ as a good site for finding a walk to match your fitness and interest level.

For walks around Margate, check out the loval council website - http://www.kingborough.tas.gov.au/page.aspx?u=453. I can recommend walk 26 - Harts Hill - which is near our house and the vista of the Channel makes the climb worthwhile.

Arts & Culture

It is something you can't see anywhere else. It may be reason you came to Hobart. It can be confrontational so go with an open mind. It is nice to go by water from the Hobart dockside if you can - the museum is designed to be seen from the water.

Shopping

Salamanca market is a bit of an institution so it is tempting to see it as a tourist market. However, it attracts a lot of very talented local people looking to sell their wares, some of which you won't find anywhere else. I enjoy it every time I go and find something I haven;t seen before. Definitely worth the visit on a Saturday if you are new to Hobart.

Meridith's is great. A wonderful range of fruit and vegetable but lots more as well - lots of local produce and even the local ciders and beers if you are interested. This is our local when we are doing the daily shop for dinner and can't be bothered driving to Kingston. It is open from 8 am to 6 pm each day.
