Panhandlers
As in any city, we have our share of folks asking for money. They can spot a newcomer from a mile away. I'd say if you get a tingle that makes your spidey senses activate, just look him/her in the eye, say "hello" and I don't have any cash while walking normally. I've lived in every type of area in this city. I've never been mugged, but people ask me for money every day. If you're so inclined, you can donate to their cause, but it's not mandatory. And, if you don't feel comfortable, don't stop and dig around in your belongings for anybody.
