If you are looking for a good place to eat in old San Juan, I strongly recommend this place, my favorite. Rice and beans, beef steak, and plantains.
Great place to have local food. Try mofongo, rice beans and sweet plantains. Have vegeterian options (always ask if beans have pork)
El Jibarito is very popular amongst locals. Tucked away in one of the less busier side streets, you'll find that the place usually gets really busy during lunch hours. If you are looking to try some authentic Puerto Rican food for affordable prices, you should go for lunch at El Jibarito.
“A great spot to work out of during the day. The food is healthy, has creative options and is reasonably priced. The service is friendly as well.”
“Very cool artwork from jewelry to magnets to wall art. Great staff, and its a wonderful place to pick up some truly beautiful and authentic souvenirs. Reasonable pricing, only problem is that its hard to pick what you want!”
“One of the best cafés to open in San Juan in recent years, Caficultura prides itself both on its full coffee-bar menu and its delicious cocina de mercado. Many ingredients are sourced locally, and the menu changes by the season. For breakfast, which is served all day, try coconut-milk French toast with pineapple jam and coconut shavings. Numerous vegetarian options are available, especially at lunch, when you'll also find many delicious gourmet sandwiches and heartier dishes on offer. The building is beautifully restored: distressed concrete walls meet an old, Spanish-style wood-beamed ceiling—hanging from it is a magnificent antique chandelier.”
“Local chocolate makers Cortes opened this restaurant to showcse their products....Awesome !”
“Come eat like the locals! Mallorca is a favorite breakfast sweet bread with different things served. Try it with just butter or jam or get it as a breakfast sandwich!”
