為紀念國父孫中山先生之偉大人格及革命行誼並發揚其思想學說，政府於民國53年開始籌建國父紀念館。除供海內外人士瞻仰國父之用外；並兼具文化藝術教育、生活休閒及學術研究之功能。民國54年蔣中正總統親自主持奠基典禮；翌年經公開徵圖，由名建築師王大閎所設計之圖樣獲得入選，後又遵照蔣總統之指示在外型上加強中國建築的特色而修正設計。民國61年5月16日主要工程完竣，舉行落成典禮。巍峨莊嚴的建築本體，座落在綠草如茵，花木扶疏的中山公園，成為台北東區一顆璀璨的明星；也為國內的文化藝術帶來嶄新的面貌 In order to commemorate the great personality and revolutionary friendship of the founding father Sun Yat-sen and to carry forward his ideological doctrine, the government began to build the National Father's Memorial in 53 years. In addition to being used by people at home and abroad to pay tribute to the Father, it also has the functions of culture and art education, life and leisure and academic research. In the 54th year of the Republic of China, President Jiang Zhongzhen personally presided over the groundbreaking ceremony; after the annual plan was publicly drawn, the design designed by the famous architect Wang Dazhao was selected, and then the design was revised according to the instructions of President Jiang to enhance the characteristics of Chinese architecture. On May 16, the Republic of China, the main project was completed and the inauguration ceremony was held. The solemn architectural body, located in Zhongshan Park with green grass and flowers and trees, has become a star in Taipei's eastern district; it also brings a new look to domestic culture and art.

國立國父紀念館是位於臺灣臺北東區的綜合性文化紀念設施，係紀念中華民國國父孫中山百年誕辰而興建，於1972年5月16日落成啟用，館區總面積達三萬五千坪。除了具紀念功能外，建築本體周圍則是戶外運動、休閒、藝文與知性活動的綜合性休憩公園。臺北市文資審議委員會2018年12月28日審議國父紀念館文資價值，通過指定為古蹟 The National Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall is a comprehensive cultural memorial facility located in the Eastern District of Taipei, Taiwan. It was built in commemoration of the 100th birthday of Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of the Republic of China. It was opened on May 16, 1972. The total area of the pavilion is 35,000 ping. In addition to the commemorative function, the building is surrounded by a comprehensive recreational park for outdoor sports, leisure, arts and cultural activities. The Taipei Municipal Capital Review Committee reviewed the value of the capital of the National Father's Memorial Hall on December 28, 2018, and designated it as a monument.

It is a memorial to the Republic of China's National Father, Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and was completed on 1972. The total building area covers 29,464 square metres (7.3 acres) in an open space of 115,000 square metres (28.4 acres). It contains displays of Sun's life and the revolution he led, and is also a multi-purpose social, educational and cultural center for the public.
