This is a great stop if you are heading to Pisgah National Forest for a hike, or if you want to enjoy the mountains on well maintained paved path to accommodate mobility issues. The Cradle of Forestry is the birthplace of forestry science for the nations! There are 13 miles of paved interpretive trails, interactive exhibits, film, music, drama, guided tours, nature programs, craft demonstrations. The site is open to visitors everyday from mid-April to early November. If you are visiting Asheville between late May and early June, be sure to check out their event calendar. They have Blue Ghost Firefly tours. These little lighting bugs are my favorite. Instead of blinking on and off, they hold their glow and look like hundreds of little gnomes carrying lanterns on the forest floor. Be sure to book early. They sell out.

Nestled in Pink Beds Valley, this heritage site is the birthplace of science-based forest management. The site is open to visitors everyday from mid-April to early November. As you enter the main gate, you are rewarded with the opportunity to explore the past, present, and future of environmental sustainability and stewardship. These are brought to visitors through paved interpretive trails, interactive exhibits, film, music, drama, guided tours, nature programs, craft demonstrations, and special events. A sustainably designed Forest Discovery Center with its gift shop and café welcomes visitors to the historical structures and a relaxing walk through the woods.
