Fantastic Gold Coast views and one of our favourite bushwalks - Twin Falls.

Start the Twin Falls circuit at Canyon Lookout or Tallanbana picnic area. Pass behind two waterfalls, through rock clefts and among palms and tree ferns. Signs along the way guide you through the different forest types - take caution near cliff edges and slippery rocks near the falls. Keep an eye out for the smooth, pink bark of brush box trees that line the track. Similar brush box in other parts of the world heritage area has been radio-carbon dated at 1500 years, making these trees the oldest ever carbon-dated on Australia's mainland! Remember to allow enough time to take in the mountain views and get your fill of photos.

The closest swimming hole to the Retreat is underneath the Twin Falls Waterfall. Just walk out the front of the Retreat, walk up the road to your right for a few meters and take the small track to the left which takes you directly to 'Rudders Lookout'. It's only about 20 meters away from the Retreat. This lookout has expansive views over the Canyon and out over the Gold Coast Skyline. At this point the main trail you are on is called the 'Twin Falls Circuit'. This circuit is about 4kms long. You can decide to either walk it in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction. If you want to swim first then go anticlockwise along the Trail. The entire circuit takes an hour to walk depending on your pace but allow 2 to 3 hours if swimming and taking your time to enjoy your natural surroundings. The best place to enter the swimming hole once you arrive at Twin Falls is to: 1) Go to the lower pathway that looks up at the Waterfall, 2) In front of you will be a large rock that juts out into the swimming hole, 3) Enter from behind and to the left hand side of this rock. This approach doesn't have as many rocks or pebbles underfoot. Try floating on your back and skimming over near or under the waterfall, depending on how much water is flowing. This waterhole is shallow in places where you can stand so please be careful and do not dive into the water. You can also swim at Purling Brook Falls however my preference is Twin Falls since it's so convenient!!

Magnificent views of the rain forest from above, and to the Gold Coast and Pacific Ocean. On the far right you can see the top of Twin Falls. Take walks into the National Park from here. Opposite The Sitting Room Cafe.
