Places to Visit in Almada: Almada has also nice places to visit, and specially you can get extraordinary views from the South Bank of Tajo River to Lisbon (on the north bank). • Cais to Ginjal – is the sidewalk the starts at the “Cacilhas Terminal” and restaurant “Farol”, and goes parallel to the River. It’s an old port and industry that for long have been abandoned. There are projects to transform the area but…not yet. It looks abandoned but it is full of life with fisherman and people walking. Even during the night, it is safe. Almost at the end of the sidewalk there are two restaurants “Ponto Final” and “Atira-te ao Rio” (check “where to eat”) and at the end there is a small garden with the Panoramic Elevator of Boca do Vento that takes you to the top the “Almada Velha” (Old Almada). • Panoramic Elevator of Boca do Vento – takes you from “Olho de Boi” Gardens at the end of “Cais do Gingal” to “Almada Velha” (Old Almada). Check on internet for schedules before deciding to go. • Almada Velha – you can walk on “Almada Velha” a have very good views to Lisbon from the Almada Castle, as well as from “Casa da Cerca” – Almada’s contemporary art museum. • Casa da Cerca – Almada’s contemporary art museum. It has also a nice garden and views to Lisbon. • Sanctuary Cristo Rei – very nice and free view from below the sanctuary to Lisbon and if you want to pay, you can take the lift to the top and have a bird-eye view on Lisbon and Lisbon bridge (Ponte 25 de Abril)

Almada, on the south bank of the River Tagus, has undoubtedly the best view of the city of Lisbon. The most outstanding views are from the castle, the panoramic funicular of the Boca do Vento (Mouth of the Wind), and above all the statue of Christ the King, built in 1959. In past centuries, Almada was a popular summer resort for the Court, which ordered the construction of stately homes and buildings that are still preserved in the city. Life in Almada does not revolve only around the capital, where most of its inhabitants work; it is a city with its own life, the setting for well-attended events like the Theatre Festival.
