Since I am always listening to my readers in the comments, I had to add Roosevelt Island to my list of free things to do in NYC. While taking the tram to Roosevelt Island technically isn’t “free”, the cost is literally the same as your MetroCard, $2.75. Not only do you get to see some of the best NYC views from the Roosevelt Island Tram, but those views continue once you cross over the East River. This New York island actually has quite a bit of history. This is where they used to keep smallpox patients, had asylums, and prisoners. Now the island is frequented by those looking to relax on the benches along the river and take in the views. The Roosevelt Tramway runs every 7-15 minutes.

There is a tram that goes over the water and will take you to Manhattan from here, and vice versa.

This is a small gem in the city. Please ride the Roosevelt Island Tramway. You'll get a view of the city like no other.

Roosevelt Island is the island between Manhattan and Queens. It is super peaceful, and there's a waterfront you can walk along to get a great view of Upper Manhattan. Beautiful at night, you can also take the tramway (part of the MTA subway/bus system) to get here! You could also take the F train. Highly recommend; this is one of my absolute favorite spots in NYC!
