A visit to Pampus starts on the boat! In about 25 minutes you sail over the IJmeer to the Fort Island. 2 ferry services leave for the island, one from Muiden and one from Amsterdam IJburg. Upon arrival you will be received by the fortwachter. Imagine how soldiers lived and worked here long ago day in and day out. The dining rooms, bedrooms and workspaces of a century ago have been brought back to life with multimedia. Anyone who visits Pampus will think back in time. Feel the power of the fortress as you walk through the empty spaces of that time. Imagine how it must have been. Listen to the sounds and the stories. Scavenger hunts, games, for young and old!

Fort Island Pampus was built between 1887 and 1897. To defend Amsterdam a military master plan was conceived, the Defense Line of Amsterdam. Against an attack from the River IJ it was decided to build a fortress in the Lake IJmeer. This was to be located on the sand bank “Pampus”. Pampus is visited yearly by many tourists. Pampus has now grown into a tourist attraction.
