The Maya Empire reached its peak around the sixth century A.D. and suddenly disappeared around 900 A.D. You’ll depart Leaning Palm Resort with a knowledgeable guide for Xunantunich (“Stone Woman”), with its monumental Maya plaster friezes and elaborate stone carvings. You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch before exploring the hilltop of Cahal Pech. This Maya ruin boasts seven interconnected plazas and 34 structures, including temple pyramids, recreational courts and an altar. If time allows you’ll end the afternoon with a swim at the Blue Hole.

This Mayan ruin is about a 10 minute drive from San Ignacio. Unique in that you have to take a ferry to get to it. While there, don't miss Benny's restaurant for Breakfast or lunch. Just up the road.
