Take the tram to get a good overview of the park. The evening is best because the animals are active. Try to catch the cheetah run.
A little further out, but well worth the drive is the San Diego Zoo's sister - the Safari Park where animals have plenty of space to roam in natural habitats. Ride the tram around the large area, and don't miss the Cheetah run in the afternoon!
