There is plenty of public transport around in the City but MyCiti Bus is probably one of the most convenient ways to get around. You simply get a card from the counter and load it with credits, then similar to the London Underground have a look at the various routes available and hop on when you're bus comes along (+-10mins between buses).

This is the only public transport I can safely recommend, Clean and cheap. But has limited routes

You need to get a MyCiti travel card, pre-loaded with credit. You will require 1 card per passenger - no sharing allowed. A typical trip costs about R7. That's about 50cents USD. Timetables are built into Google Maps. The Adderley Station and the Civic Centre station are the two major HUB's for MyCiti

Myciti buses run from Hout Bay to Cape Town and all around the city. It is an excellent service. Tickets and top ups are available from the Spar shop in Hout Bay.
