Walk out the door and into one of the RSPB's largest bird reserves. Excellent for moorland birds. There are lovely walks through the reserve.

Hidden away in the north-west corner of the North Pennines, Geltsdale is a remote and ruggedly beautiful nature reserve that encompasses two hill farms - Geltsdale and Tarnhouse. Here, you'll find upland birds such as black grouse, breeding waders including curlews, and birds of prey like the hen harrier.

Great birdwatching and fab views in the quiet spot. You may see oyster catchers , ospreys, hen harriers , golden plover, hares, deer and even a bee eater was spotted ( once!)
