The official founding date of the University of Bologna is 1088, but actually the building of Archiginnasio (1563) was built to put together many different premises. The library inside the building is one of the greatest historical libraries in the world, with codes, manuscripts, ancient books

The Archiginnasio of Bologna is one of the most important buildings in the city of Bologna; once the main building of the University of Bologna, it currently houses the Archiginnasio Municipal Library. Boasting a beautiful cloistered garden in the typical style of the city, the library also houses an Anatomical Theatre which was built in 1637 by Antonio Levanti. It is shaped like an amphitheater and decorated with statues representing epresent doctors from ancient and modern times. Beautiful and very interesting.
