The city of Sidon is located on the Mediterenean coast of Lebanon. This ancient Phoenicians city has been of great religious, political and commercial value; it is said to be inhabited since 4000 B.C. During the 13th century, the Crusaders built Sidon’s Sea Castle as a fortress on a small island connected to the mainland by a narrow 80m long roadway. The Sea Castle is an emblem of Sidon. When the crusaders chose to strengthen and defend the Sidon port in the winter of 1227 to 1228, they ended up building a fortress over a Phoenician site. Although the Sea Castle was partially destroyed, it was continuously rebuilt until the bombing by the British marines in 1840.

Sidon is an old Lebanese town. go in the old town next to the sea castle and visit to soap museum that makes traditional Lebanese soap. Don't forget to try the cheapest and yummiest falafel sandwich at abou ramy's Falafel by the castle.

Historical fortress on the sea built by crusaders in 13th centuries. Good place for a little walk and pictures.
