It’s exciting cycling along the canal here with my daughter on the front of my bike. There’s a skate park and two imaginative playgrounds, one for younger kids and one with big slides (put sand on to make them faster!). In summer try the splash pool, fishing, boating lake, gigs at the bandstand, and puppet shows. Make a day of it by starting with scrambled eggs or Sri Lankan breakfast of coconut pancakes with chutneys at the child-friendly Pavilion Cafe nearby, or buy picnic stuff from the shops on Lauriston Road and set up lunch as soon as the kids are hungry.

One of the magnificent Royal parks of London. From the Broadway market, walk along the canal to reach the Victoria Park. Great pub with food and a garden.

It was built by Queen Victoria to give East End people a green space. It’s full of history.

Great place to come for a walk. Visit the farmers market on Sundays. Sit by the lake or wander along the canal looking at the colourful canal boats. There is also a little coffee and brunch place by the lake and the park is surrounded by some great pubs if you’re in the mood for a pint or a Sunday…

Known as the ‘People’s Park’, Victoria Park is one of London’s favourite open spaces. Stretched over a huge 86.18 hectares, this swath of the outdoors is nestled entirely in Tower Hamlets. “This is a great Sunday market but warning it does get busy as it is very popular amongst visitors and locals. Its great to see the traders working and selling their wares and getting in amongst the hustle and bustle. You can also pick up some great deals on house plants and flowers. If you want to avoid the crowds I would recommend getting there early. Around lunchtime the crowds pick up. Also very close to Shoreditch so can easily pop down to Brick Lane after to look around the market there. ”
