Blue Pools Walk
A short walk through native beech forest leads to two swing bridges looking down upon crystal clear blue pools. A perfect walk for the kids and a refreshing summer swimming spot. This track is accessed in the Makarora area and is well worth the hours drive.
Do you dare take the plunge into the icy water? Watch thrill seekers jump off the bridge into the stunning blue water. The walk to the pools is like entering a rainforest- as soo as you step out of the car the climate is cooler. Pack insect repellent because sand flies can be pesky!
2hrs north west of Queenstown on the Haast highway is the Blue Pools...dont forget your bug spray!! Gorgeous icy blue cold water fresh off the mountains
A gentle stroll leads you to stunningly beautiful pool. Located an hour or so drive away past the township of Makarora.
“Local pub closer than driving into Wanaka. A true locals hang out. Quiz night if super fun. Delicious food, pool tables and relaxed vibe. ”
“This place reminds us of the cool and hipster bike shops in San Francisco. Matt and his team are avid bikepacking and packrafting enthusiasts. They have a fleet of e-bikes for rental and guidance on places to bike. Drop in to browse the bikes, accessories or hangout next door for a coffee at Good Spot. Closed Sunday and Mondays in Summer. Shorter opening hours in Winter.”
“Great fish and chips only a 5-10 min walk. It's only 2 mins further to the river to eat them!”
“Child friendly walk up to a small hidden lake. Decent hill at the beginning but easy from there - our 5 and 8 year old managed it. You could take a buggy, but would have to navigate the style at the bottom.”
“SO MUCH FUN - Kayak or Stand Up Paddle Board with us in beautiful Wanaka! Paddle Wanaka provides beach rentals on Lake Wanaka. Our exclusive guided kayaking & Stand Up Paddle board (SUP) trips take place on Lake Wanaka & the Clutha River.”
