Literally next door to Scalloway Castle, the museum tells the story of Shetland's old capital and the more recent WWII Shetland Bus operations.
Scalloway lies to the west of Shetland approximately 6 miles from Lerwick. until 1838 it was the capitalof Shetland until Lerwick took over. Here you can see the impressive Scalloway Castle which dates back to 1600 when it was completed. The Scalloway museum is a must , with special reference to the WW2 operation which became known as The Shetland Bus. This is remembered in Shetland and Norway today. There's places to eat, and you can enjoy the walk through the village leading to its waterfront where you can see the Shetland Bus memorial statue. This was built from stones taken from the birthplace of the 44 crewmen that died during the missions on The Shetland Bus. Truly poignant.
