The design of Palace goes back to 1418. This rectangular building was originally built as a tax office for the Crown. It is flanked by two turrets, while the lower central part set in between gives an impression of unity. Work began in 1421, using a late gothic style. Between 1481 and 1520, the splendid gothic courtyard was enlarged, the Chapel was started and the façade on the Plaza de Manises was built by the architects Pere Compte and Joan Guiverro. The renaissance turret designed by Joan Corbera was finished in 1521. From that period until 1940, when the new turret was built, no other work of importance took place. El palacio de la Generalidad de Valencia es un edificio de estilo gótico valenciano con intervenciones renacentistas que data del siglo XV. Es Bien de Interés Cultural desde 1931.​El palacio de la Generalidad Valenciana está situado en el barrio de la Seu, perteneciente al [Distrito de Ciutat Vella distrito de Ciutat Vella de Valencia. Se ubica al final de la calle Caballeros, en su encuentro con las Plazas de Manises, antiguamente llamada plaza de San Bartolomé, y de la Virgen, donde se encuentran otros edificios muy representatitos de la ciudad, como son la Catedral de Valencia, la Basílica de la Virgen de los Desamparados o el Palacio de Fuentehermosa, sede de la presidencia de la Generalidad Valenciana. Actualmente es la sede de la Generalidad Valenciana, el gobierno de la Comunidad Valenciana, aunque a lo largo de la historia de Valencia el edificio ha sido sede de las siguientes instituciones, de las que ha tomado nombre: Casa de la Diputación del General del Reino de Valencia.
