Pirate's Cove is actually a nude beach but there is a hiking trail you can take by driving along Avila Beach Drive like you are going to visit downtown. Well before you reach downtown, you will see a little turnoff on your left that takes you up a hill and around another bend up higher to a dirt parking area that leads to the mouth of the hiking trail. At this point you are high above Pirate's Cove and the beachcombers below will appear quite small. There are usually quite a few hikers in the area so it is not difficult to find the trail. Follow it and when you come to any fork, veer to the right. Keep veering to the right until you reach the edge and can look down at the beach. If you go further to the right you will find yourself entering an open cave that goes all the way to the edge of a cliff. You can enter there and take some amazing photos. Many kids go up there to party and have camp fires. One of the signs you are in the right place is that the open cave that leads to the edge of the cliff will have a lot of soot from all the campfires. Enjoy!!

Pirates Cove is actually a nude beach, but if you don't take the trail all the way to the beach, you'll find our favorite spot to watch the sunset or just enjoy the ocean views. This is not for people who are scared of heights because there is a sheer cliff. This is an easy walk (less than 5 minutes) for such a spectacular sight.

The best nude beach in town. Our advice is to leave by 3 or 4 pm to avoid the riff-raff. Pirates Cove has a very European vibe and be sure to pack a picnic and celebrate in your birthday suit.

This is a great secluded beach. You should know its closing optional so be prepared if you decide to hike down the side of the mountain to get there. Usually warmest beach because it's a cove.

(Also known as Cave Landing or the Smuggler’s Cave) is filled with rich legends with ties to pirates and bootleggers. During the Prohibition era of the 1920’s and 30’s, this cave was used to smuggle booze as well as other illegal activities for those times. If you visit today, be well-prepared to experience this cove with hoards of other people as it is a very popular destination. The hike to the cove is a whopping quarter mile, overlooking scenic bluffs and sea caves. Please keep in mind that the beach below is clothing-optional so don’t be surprised if you see some sunbathers sans swimwear!
