It is a popular fishing and camping destination, and is surrounded by the Lincoln National Forest. Because of the high altitude, the water is cold year-round and teeming with rainbow trout. The area boasts fishing and camping opportunities with great hiking trails and streams.

While there is no camping or fishing at Bonito Lake due to the Little Bear Fire of 2012, you may still hike and bike ride around the lake.

Lake Bonito has been under a renovation project since the Little Bear Fire that occured a few years ago but they plan to fill it soon so verify with locals before driving up. It is beautiful though still w great camping and hiking everywhere! Definitely worth a drive up there.
