Natural beauty in abundance. Local history and legendary tale involving a dog and the devil. Be careful going down Jacobs ladder. Meals available from the Hafod Hotel. Make the experience extra special by taking the Rheidol Steam train from Aberystwyth (extra scary at Halloween)

Devils Bridge Falls is a world famous tourist attraction in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains and 12 miles from the seaside town of Aberystwyth. These unique waterfalls have attracted many thousands of visitors since the 18th century, including William Wordsworth who wrote about the “Torrent at the Devil’s Bridge”. Today, the Falls Nature Trail provides a unique opportunity to see this great natural feature in the Rheidol Gorge. The Waterfalls and Punchbowl are open all year.

Opened in 1902, this narrow gauge steam railway offers the scenic trip from Aberystwyth through ancient woodlands to Devil’s Bridge, home of the famous waterfalls, high in the Cambrian Mountains. The railway is mostly single track and is 12 miles long. Journey time is approximately one hour. There are two working steam engines originally built in the 1920s and restored in the railway’s own workshops at Aberystwyth station. Rolling stock incudes both compartment carriages and open sided carriages. There’s a shop selling a variety of railway merchandise plus confectionary and hot & cold drinks at Aberystwyth station. At Devil’s Bridge station the Two Hoots cafe has hot and cold food options. The Devil’s Bridge station is a 400 metres from the waterfalls and the Hafod Hotel. Just opposite the station entrance you can find Sarah Bunton’s handmade chocolate shop.
