Chelem is a very popular place for snowbirds, people who come from the US and Canada to spend the winter. How to get to Chelem by car: Chelem is located 9 km west of the port of Progreso and 45 km north of the city of Mérida, the capital of the state of Yucatán Access from Mérida: (45 km, 50 minutes) Take the highway to Progreso north of Mérida (highway federal 261) and advance approximately 25 km) Follow the deviation towards Chelem-Chuburná Continue until you reach Chelem.
