Oregon Historical Society Museum
Vital to every historic place like Portland, local historical museums are an underrated source of knowledge and fascinating enjoyment. OHSM is an example of how to put together a museum that not only teaches, but entertains.
The Oregon Historical Society Museum is a history museum housed at the Oregon Historical Society in downtown Portland, Oregon.
Great starting point for those interested in the history of the region.
“The Portland Art Museum was founded in 1892 and is the seventh oldest museum in the country. The museum has become famous around the world because of its permanent collection that has more than 42,000 pieces in it. For history buffs there are plenty of historic art pieces on display. There are many pieces that have been collected from the native people of North America as well as a large collection of English silver. The campus that the museum sits on also has the Jubitz Center for Modern and Contemporary Art which is well worth taking a look at.”
“A top attraction in Portland. Feels like you are in Japan once you get into the gardens. Must see if you are looking for some zen. ”
“Biggest and best bookstore ever - new, used and historic. 6 floors I think? Across from. Starbucks and their own great espresso. You can easily spend a day. ”
“Older children and even young teens enjoy the regular museum and also special exhibits. Check daily films shown in Omnimax Theater. 🎥 ”
“Forest park offers a plethora of hiking trails, biking paths, mountain biking trails, unique vistas of the city and Cascade Mountain range. I enjoy the longer hikes that end up at Skyway Tavern for horseshoes and ping pong. The Southeastern part of the park is close to fun shops and a variety of food and drink options around NW 23rd and Thurman Ave.”
