Wonderful restaurants include Walrus and the Carpenter and Staple and Fancy. Cozy coffee and tea shops such as Miro Tea with a dizzying assortment of teas. And incredible vintage shops all housed in historic buildings. Oh, and don't forget to have an ice cream at famed Salt and Straw—they have vegan flavors too! It's a wonderful neighborhood to wander. Great to tie this in with a visit to the Nordic Museum and/or the Ballard Locks and/or Golden Gardens Park—see those entries. And if you like farmer's markets, Ballard has the largest in Seattle every Sunday from 10am to 3pm.

Old Ballard Avenue is actually a recent development in Seattle. This once quiet neighborhood has become THE place to catch a show (The Tractor Tavern), do some shopping, or find a great meal (The Walrus & The Carpenter, Bastile, Carta Oaxaca, 8oz Burger Company), a fancy cocktail, or a not-so-fancy beverage.

Several blocks of upscale and quirky shopping. There is a Sunday market with produce and other good stuff year round now.

Walk down Old Ballard Avenue - great shops, drinking & eating establishments & live music venues. The real reason Ballard is so awesome :-).
