Lake Benmore was artificially created in the 1960s as part of the constuction of by the Benmore Dam. man made lake well worth a visit over summer. Safe swimming and boating attracts good tourist numbers in the warmer months. A great family and fishing spot

Go for a drive to the top of the Benmore Hydro Dam there is plenty to look at, enjoy sitting at the lakes edge

Stunning huge lake that is typically warmer in temperature than any other lakes in the area. Excellent for boating and about a 15-20 minute drive from Twizel.

No trip to Otematata is complete without a day out on the lake. If you have a boat, launch at either the Benmore Dam ramp, or at Sailor's Cutting (On the main road to Omarama) for the perfect day out with amazing views.
