Want to Canoe? have tailored excursions set by how much time you have to paddle, which means you can explore the river at your own pace. Other canoe establishments (such as Wye Valley Canoes or Left Bank Canoe Hire) have regular services on the four-mile stretch between Glasbury and Hay, and it’s quite special to stop and enjoy a picnic at one of the secluded spots along the river. If you’re not keen on canoeing but want to be by the water, you can take a 10 minute walk down Bakers Lane next to Cromwell House where you will find a spectacular stretch of the river, fishing huts and a beach where you can watch nature do its thing and maybe take a dip (careful now!). Further out, you could spend a gentle afternoon at the river beach in Hay on Wye that locals call The Warren where you can nostalgically skim stones and grab one of the good pork pies from Gibbons Family Butchers. You may even be able to gloat you took the relaxed option - watching canoeists capsize on the gentle rapids at The Warren is a quiet treat.

The River Wye flows throughout this region. Within walking distance from the accommodation and with options to canoe, swim, fish and many more, the Ladygarden Annex is a perfect place to base yourself whilst you explore

WYE VALLEY WALK Whether you’re looking for a pleasant afternoon stroll, a long hike or just a day’s trip, Wye Valley walk is the one to consider. This beautiful trail is a long-distance footpath criss-crossing the border between England and Wales, and following the gorgeous river Wye. It’s known for having some of the most breathtaking views in Herefordshire (maybe even in the UK…) and is the perfect way to walk the Wye Valley. The Wye Valley hike mainly follows the path of the river, passing through the pastoral, open fields; however, can quickly change to become a stiff climb up and down through the woodlands. For those looking for a more challenging walk, then you can continue following the trail through when it gets to this point. You’ll pass through various Herefordshire landmarks and villages, such as Goodrich Castle, English Bicknor, Welsh Bicknor, and more. This is a great starting walk for those who want to spend the day exploring.
