The Cuale River rushes down from the mountains and then gently glides through the southern end of Puerto Vallarta, dissecting downtown (‘el centro’) from Viejo Vallarta (‘old Vallarta’). An island in the river, the Isla Cuale, is home to a lush park, a cultural center, several relaxing restaurants, and a tourist craft market. Shopping

For great selection and prices on fruits, vegetables, meat, chicken, and more…discover the joy of shopping where the locals shop! The Emiliano Zapata Market is located on Lazaro Cardenas and is notated on the Romantic Zone Map. Each time we’ve visited this market we’ve marveled at the beauty of these fresh and colorful fruits and vegetables. And right on site is a corn tortilla factory that makes delicious fresh tortillas daily; customers order their tortillas by weight. Also within this market is a little store where you can buy fresh-squeezed pineapple juice that is so refreshing; this tasty treat is served in little plastic bags with a straw coming out.
