Moor Newcastle East brings to you an eclectic fare with fresh and aromatic flavours stemming from Middle Eastern, Spanish and North African influences. The concept is simple: food that is unassuming, fresh and unique with a sharing-style menu that allows for conversational, collaborative dining. At Moor, we also love coffee. We believe with carefully selected beans together with skilled baristas and a whole lot of love, the coffee will speak for itself. Within the city centre and a stone's throw from Newcastle main beach, Moor Newcastle East is the creation of two local chefs, Graham Sincock and Shane Brunt.

A large ring-of-rocks pool below Newcastle’s Fort Scratchley near Nobbys Beach. By 1883, large rocks formed a seawall defining an oval pool 180 yards long with a floor of coal shale and sand. Nowdays, at high tide, it can be easier to see the plaque on the Bathers Way that commemorates the pool, than the pool itself. Still a good place to snorkel.

The walk was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli in 1915 and the commencement of steel making in Newcastle; it acts as a magnificent memorial to the men and women of the Hunter who served their community and their country. The structure cost $4.5m to build and is a 450 meter long cliff top walkway that links Newcastle’s Strzelecki Lookout to Bar Beach.

The present lighthouse was established on Nobbys Head in 1854, which was then a small isolated coastal islet just off Signal Head. It was only the third lighthouse built in NSW after the Macquarie Light in 1818 and the Hornby Light that was also built in 1858. The first beacon had been lit on Signal Hill in 1804 to guide vessels into the Hunter River. It was an open coal fire that was only seen for several kilometres. An oil burning light in a large metal device was established in 1821 and was visible for 12 kilometres. The oil light was not reliable so the beacon reverted to the coal fire once again. The small tower has since been dwarfed by the taller buildings that house the Signal St

Public Park. Great for Picnic.
Great for a Picnic. King Edward Park was dedicated as a recreation reserve in 1863. Within the grounds was a bowling green and the Obelisk, built as a navigational marker in 1850; the focal point is a Victorian rotunda. The park has spectacular ocean views, Norfolk Island pines and a sunken garden usually ablaze of colour. On the southern boundary are the remains of the Shepherds Hill Battery and Gunner's Cottage which were in regular use from 1890 to World War II. The park also has links with Newcastle's penal past, with the Bogey Hole (or convict hewn ocean bathing pool) at the foot of the eastern cliff face. A popular place for family picnics and barbecues, and now a movie venue in summer
