This is one of the Locals Only places - open 24 hours but they shine when it comes to breakfast. Huge portions / decent prices. There is a bar so Bloody Marys for breakfast is a real thing. They run daily specials and is great for groups. Seafood is their speciality but they have many landlubber options too. Large tables makes it great for kids & groups.

Tucked into a nondescript mall in Vegas Chinatown, the Chubby Cattle is known for its HOT Pot and use of technology. There is a conveyer belt that goes around where you can choose extra ingredients to add to your soup *hot pot* Fun atmosphere.

Honey Salt was one of the original farm-to-fork restaurants in Las Vegas. We don't have a lot of farmland here. The menu changes frequently depending on the season and what is fresh. They have a nice Parmesan crisps to start out. We ended our meal sharing a brioche monkey bread. Delicious. Nice place for a date nigh or dinner with friends.

While Oscar's Beef Booze and Broads is not in our neighborhood, it is our go-to spot for taking company to see downtown Las Vegas. Owned by our current and former mayors - Carolyn & Oscar Goodman, this place is vintage Vegas at its best. It's pricey but any decent steakhouse is. There is live music, showgirls and ample seating with a view of all of Fremont street. Oscar is known to make a nightly appearance and goes table to table greeting his guests.

This is our favorite Mexican taqueria on the West Coast - yes we have tried that many! It's a hole-in-the-wall but the food is fresh and the portions are ample. My current favorites are the chili verde plate, al pastor burritos, and the carnitas tacos. Their green sauce is made fresh daily and has just the right amount of heat. Its a tiny place with only 4 tables. There is a drive-thru and they deliver to Seasons Cottage via Seamless.

Very close to Seasons Cottage, this is a great coffee shop with comfortable seating, super fast wifi, nice bakery selection of fresh pastries, and roasted on site coffee. I love the Sumatran blend with a slice of fresh nut bread. Nice place to take a book to read while watching the locals stream though the doors.

Not in the neighborhood but really worth the trip. There are several iconic bars, clubs etc in the DTLV area. Seasonal cocktail menu that features very unique blends. My current favorite is Pop's Secret - Popcorn infused Mescal, strega, lemon, fennel bitters, and paprika. Too much? Try the Spa Day: vanilla vodka, lavender gin, chareau and lemon curd. The atmosphere is a twist between a Victorian opium den and high tea room at the Dorchester. Named by Culture Trip magazine as one of the 10 best cocktail bars in Vegas

One of the original dive bars in "Old" Vegas - Atomic Liquors recently reopened with updated decor. Its name was Virginia's Cafe but was given the nickname Atomic Liquors because when the Nevada Test site was doing bomb testing, the mushroom clouds were visible from the bar stools. Today it stands in the same location with many of the original fixtures and serves up a hefty well-poured cocktail or one of the over 30 craft beers on tap.

This is a secret bar within a bar. Really not known to many outside of locals. It's on Fremont Street inside The Commonwealth - a fantastic place in its own right with one of the best rooftop bars in Las Vegas. But there is something very special about The Laundry Room. It requires reservations to get in and in order to get a reservation, guests have to text a code of secret numbers by figuring out a series of clues which change daily. Once inside - there are no photos allowed - cell phone are forbidden. It's very much a throwback to the 1920s speakeasy days. So worth the extra effort.

Bringing back the best of the 1960s Tiki bars, the Golden Tiki in a strip mall in Chinatown has it all. A Caribbean Pirate theme with giant bowls of uber sweet drinks while sitting in a conch-shaped couch. There is nightly entertainment, the bartenders have a heavy pouring hand and if pou-pou platters aren't your "thing" there is always Lee's Sandwiches 2 doors down and you can bring food in.

I'm a MoG - Mother of Geeks - and anytime I can find a way to connect with my adult children is a bonus. At this bar you never know who you might be sitting next to sharing a bench with. It could be Darth Vader or Harry Potter or an elf, Jon Snow or even Hellboy - actually, even Ron Perlman who was there one Tuesday night. The walls are filled with fan art, the cocktails are themed and every night is something new.

107 floors above the Las Vegas valley at the top of the Stratosphere hotel *keep your eyes shut as you walk to the elevator* is this spectacular gem of a lounge. Offering 360 views of the strip, downtown, Sunrise Mountain to the east and the Sierra Nevadas to the west, if you want to splurge for one romantic sunset view, this is the place. I like the southwestern view where the sky is on fire with pinks, oranges, reds and ombre blues. Happy hour from 4-7 has 2 for one drinks - and a 2nd happy hour from 12m-3am. Live music with a nice jazz trio provides a romantic atmosphere high above it all.

Parks & Nature

Desert Breeze Park is part of the Clark County systems of parks spread around the valley. It is considered one of the premier parks for its size, easy access, and amenities. There is a skate park - roller and board, an indoor lap pool, huge gym, and in summer an outdoor waterpark style pool with slides, boards and a tot pad.

Sightseeing

The Container Park is part of DTLV revitalization. It is a series of shipping containers turned into restaurants, bars, shops with all stacked around a large open play area that contains a HUGE tree house for the kiddies. There is ample seating available and many of the places have ramps for stroller and ADA friendly. Welcoming visitors is a giant fire-breathing praying mantis that was repurposed from Burning Man. You might find a llama wandering around since the Airstream village is right next door.

For a unique Beyond the Neon experience, what better place than where old neon signs go to be repurposed? While many of them have been "planted" along Fremont, the most iconic ones are located at the Neon Museum. You can walk among them, take photos - NOT Professional - hear the story of how each impacted the transition of Las Vegas from a sleepy town on the way to Los Angeles to the Entertainment capital of the world.
