Good local pub with a beer garden. Food is pretty good, too, and it's right by the station so nice and convenient.

The 'Banquet' meal offered through the week is extremely cheap and the staff go beyond the call of duty. Tasty curry, too, and you get a mint at the end.

Fancy a cheeky Nando's? The nearest one is in New Malden high street, just get off the 213 bus from Worcester Park at 'The Fountain' and look towards the roundabout. You can't miss it! Although there is one about to open in Worcester Park high street.

Worcester Park is a little lacking in trendy brunch places, but Tasty Affair is perfect for that avocado fix.

Let's just say you don't go here for the ambiance. But for a no-frills, hearty English breakfast it ticks the boxes. Also does a decent takeaway coffee and sausage sandwich, should either of those float your boat.

Drinks & Nightlife

Said to be the oldest wine bar in London. While that may or may not be true, it's a fantastic place for a drink. Providing you like wine, as that's all they do. The cheese and meat board isn't the cheapest but it tastes great and goes perfectly with the sizable wine list and the candlelit ambience. Expect big crowds almost all the time, though, because it's famous and at the tourist-heavy area of Embankment.

In the summer, Tamesis is hard to beat because it's a boat on the Thames that gave up its sailing days long behind. The drinks are reasonably priced (for London) and the location is just a short walk from South Bank and Embankment. It's all-too easy to spend hours here drinking local beers and end up with sunburn. As day becomes night, you may also get to enjoy live music. Seasickness is a possibility, though.

A great Sam Smith's pub right by the Thames and located in the prettiest and most happening bit of Kingston. The food is good value. Best served in the summer when you want to bask in the sun with a pint or three and look at boats and swans (but not swans captaining boats), but its candlelit and cosy in the winter.

Great pub with a really nice outside area for enjoying a drink. Not too expensive for food either and it's in a prime Richmond location. Can be extremely busy if the sun is out, but that can be said for most of the UK. We have to really enjoy it while it lasts.

HG Wells lived in Worcester Park (long before my time). So it is only fitting we have a boozer named after him. Fairly cheap compared with central London prices, does food and has a beer garden. By no means the best pub in London, but a London Pride in the sun is hard to fault.

Absolutely beautiful countryside walk up Leith Hill, where you can reward yourself with a hot chocolate in the winter or something cooler in the summer. Rural Surrey at its best, basically. You do need to drive there, but it's worth it.

Massive park with actual deer roaming around. Closest entrance is in Kingston and you can walk and drive through it. One car park has a shop with ice cream in the summer months, so might be worth heading that way.

Beautiful National Trust location with the chance to feed some ducks (you can buy feed when you pay for your entrance ticket). Walk around the gardens and generally soak up the wildlife and views. Can be a tad busy at peak times, but it's worth a visit anyway. A cafe at the end lets you rest your weary legs (and sample the flapjack and other cakes and sandwiches).

Sightseeing

A beautiful place in the Surrey Hills and home to the Olympic cycling course. Go for a walk, take in the views and then finish with a flapjack and tea in the National Trust shop. Or, on hot days, enjoy an ice cream.

Quaint little village with lovely cafes and shops that serves as a great start and end point for the many walks in the area, the best of which follow the area's beautiful canals. A bit of a drive, but it's British countryside at its best.

Beautiful London borough that offers shopping, posh restaurants, traditional pubs and some amazing views of the Thames river. Expect massive crowds and a lively atmosphere along the water's edge near the Pitcher & Piano pub if you visit during the summer.

Essentials

There's a big Waitrose supermarket just off Worcester Park high street. It's a bit more expensive than Sainsbury's, but it's great if you like posh food and is the closest big supermarket to my home.

Like the big Sainsbury's Local, only smaller and more local. There's not quite as much to choose from but it has a reasonable selection of the essentials, including milk, bread, cereal and less essential items (but no less great) like popcorn, chocolate and pizza.

A big Sainsbury's with a petrol station. Cheaper than Waitrose but requires a longer walk to get there. You can bus there if need be 213), but it's still a slight walk to the actual supermarket from the crossroads or a very short ride on the 93 bus. If you have a car, it's a quick drive.

Shopping

Kingston has plenty of clothing shops, Bentalls shopping centre, local food and veg market and just about everything else you would want from a town. Easy to get to on the 213 bus. It also sits on the edge of Richmond Park, which offers stunning walks and a chance to see deer in London. Yes, that's a thing. Also nice to walk along the Thames River.

Getting Around

Station Cars is a taxi rank that offers fairly good value for getting around. Also happens to be located by Worcester Park station so it's highly convenient. The phone line is open 24 hours: 020 8330 7000. Or you can, you know, Uber.
