This is right across the road so very handy, and they do a great sandwich. Their sister shop is in Circular quay. Look out for their sandwich + coffee specials in the morning

This place does the most awesome slow cooked beef cheeks toasted sandwich. Its not cheap but its amazing. The coffee isnt bad either. It gets busy on a weekend though so probably better to visit on a weekday

A short walk up Crown and one block over from William Street, Stanley Street has a great diversity of restaurants, from the ubiquitous Thai and Japanese, to Mediterranean, South American, and gastro fare in the Lord Roberts Hotel. My favourite is Bar Reggio which is affordable and good quality Italian with a great atmosphere and staff.

Although not really my scene, the Finger Wharf restaurant strip is a drawcard for a lot of visitors who dont mind paying extra to be on the harbour and mixing it with Sydney's more affluent. Most popular is China Doll. For a reality check, The Bells Hotel across the road often has a free sausage sizzle for patrons on a Tuesday, and then of course there is Harrys Pies, which is almost as famous as the Opera House around these parts

Great staff, great atmosphere, and traditional Neapolitan pizzas. This is a favorite with the locals

Drinks & Nightlife

Well this is about the first thing you see when you walk out the door. Its a bit like a country pub in the heart of the city and is well respected for their stance against pokies. There is also great jazz every Sunday afternoon, friendly staff, and although this venue properly belongs in the Drinks and Nightlife section, its worth noting that they have received a lot of recent attention in the media for their new vegan menu. There are still the old non-vega options available but the vegan spin on traditional pub grub is well worth checking out. And this is where you will meet all the locals

This is a great venue and one of the few left in Kings Cross without an overbearing security presence at the door or ID checks. Its great if you are into craft beers as well

This converted terrace house, just over William on Crown is a cozy little wine bar downstairs and a restaurant above. They specialise in international wines and cocktails and the guys who run it are down to earth and happy to recommend a tipple. The price can be a bit prohibitive for a long stay depending on your budget, but well worth a stop in before or after a meal on Stanley Street

Sightseeing

You may wonder why I have put the Thrifty Carpark in here as a point of interest, but I couldnt find the Domain Moving Walkway on the map which is one of Sydneys hidden gems. It stretches from the second ffloor of the Domain caprark which you can access from St John Youngs Cresent around the corner and takes you all the way into the CBD to St James Park (and quite handy if its raining). Its the longest travelator in the Southern Hemispehere but its the mural that makes it a must see. The entire length of the tunnel is decorated by indigenous artist Tim Guider with the help of some locals. More details http://domaincarpark.com.au/sydneys-longest-moving-walkway.html

Parks & Nature

Sure, everyone knows about this place. But as its just around the corner from the apartment, and you will likely be heading into Circular Quay at some point, so take the walk through here. You can pass by the Art Gallery of NSW on the way, or Ms Macquarie's Chair, but take some time to appreciate the Botanic Gardens seeing youre in the neighborhood anyway

This is just a library, but an old and historic one by Australian standards and has a beautiful reading room if you needed to catch up on some emails or research

There is a small but popular theater out back of this popular drinking hole. They have discounts on theater tickets earlier in the week and have great, independent productions year round. Keep an eye on the listings and book something if you can

There is not much I can add about this place that isnt in every guide book, but its such a short walk from Cathedral Street and check the listings for free events, especially on Wednesday nights. There is often free music or film events to compliment the current exhibition

This place is great. At face value a second hand bookstore with really friendly, knowledgeable staff, but out back they have vinyl, clothes, plants and more. Stop in for a browse and a chat

Well, only part of it is organic. Although some complain that this is the face of inner city gentrification, this is the best place to be on a Saturday morning. There are cheap vegetables, loads of different food stalls, coffee, jewelry and chorizo. If you are in town on Saturday, take a walk up William Street and into the Cross to check it out
