Food Scene

A restaurant that only uses ingredients made in Umbria. A huge selection of very good wines and dishes at great prices, surely one of the best places to eat in Perugia. The rabbit is a dream.

Literally 20 seconds away from my front door there's this great bar/bakery owned by two lovely girls. Trying to translate an Italian way of saying: they really have golden hands. Cafè, cappuccino and quick lunches are also available.

If it's good and grilled you can find it there. Both a regular restaurant and a street-food place, here you can enjoy the well-known quality of Umbrian meats along with the right wine. A very good place, but not really vegan/vegetarian friendly.

One of the best neapolitan pizza in the city. Only Pizza there, so that you know! But trust me, unless you have gluten intolerance you will love the place. When paying for the dinner don't think they mistaken the bill... it's just very good and very cheap at the same time.

Th restaurant is great, simply great. But what's even more astonishing is the aperitivo they make: something like a dozen different finger food preparations are served along with a glass of wine. I'm not a huge eater, that's true, but I never felt like going to dinner after having aperitivo there. Beautiful.

If you feel like eating some Italian pizza but you are also too lazy to go out you can make a call to La Casetta. In a matter of minutes they will prepared and deliver to you a truly good example of the art of making pizza.

Fancy some Chinese food? Wang is the place for you. Unlikely many other Chinese restaurant Wang sticks on traditions, that's probably why it's the only Chinese restaurant frequented by Chinese people. It might takes a while to find a free table and to receive the food, but the quality and price makes it definitely worth the patience.

Not many places in the centre of the city regularly put on stage live music, but Marla is one of them. Usually a couple of live gigs per week in variable days, the program is regularly updated and can be checked in Marla's facebook page.

Great live music in the heart of the city. Everything from a singer/songwriter to a 10 elements band could be on stage. The place is cosy and the owner is a good friend.

If you want to be taken in a journey in Umbrian taste Frittole is the place: Lillo and Lilla (the owners.. I suspect they're not their real names! :) will explain in details what you are eating (where it comes from, how it was made and a bunch of stories about the farmers who produce them) and why you are eating it in that order.

One of the most recognizable symbols of the city, the fountain was built between 1275 and 1278 on the main city's source of water and features 50 bas-reliefs and 24 statues. A must-see in Perugia

This unique kind of underground city is the most evident testimony of the Church domination in Perugia. The place is almost somehow surreal, and since the 80's hosts an escalator system that connects the lower and higher part of the city centre.

Arts & Culture

The main Museum in Perugia located in the wonderful Palazzo dei Priori, building that also hosts the local municipality. There you can eyewitness the evolution of works of art ranging from 1200 to 1800, including those of the two most appreciated Umbrian artists of all time: Perugino e Pinturicchio.

The main theatre of the city, an extraordinary example of Italian architecture. In the late 18th Century the city's middle-class decided to show its financial strength by creating a theatre that was bigger than the one built by the aristocrats families... showing-off has sometimes has positive consequences. It was named after Francesco Morlacchi, probably the most celebrated composers born in Perugia. Legitimate theatre shows and a lot of classical (and sometimes not classical) music can be seen/heard there, just check the program at www.teatrostabile.umbria.it

Nobody wants to even take into consideration the idea of needing medical help during a long-dreamt vacation... but you know, sometime life is unpredictable and it's better to be prepared. The hospital - a truly huge complex of many buildings, a sort of city in the city - is located right outside Perugia. In case of emergency, call me or a taxi to quickly get there.

A self service laundry. I admit I'm not very competent about laundries, it's probably like any laundry but this one is less than five minutes walking from home. Big plus.

Getting Around

Don't look at the location, only 50 meters away from my front door there is one of the main bus stops in the centre of the city. From there you can easily reach the train station in about 15 minutes and, from there, go basically everywhere. The cost of the ticket is 1,50 but there are tourist tickets (daily ticket, 10 trips ticket) and it can also be used in the Minimetro system, a suggestive not-underground metro that connects the outskirts to the city centre.

Our airport is almost worth a visit because of its size: it's so small that looks cute. It's actually a big plus as waiting times are really short, and despite the size it's connected with many European Countries with both regular and low-cost flights.

Parks & Nature

The Trasimeno lake area is one of my favorite in Umbria. Maybe because there's an entire ecosystem of towns, villages, tiny marinas, islands, woods, parks, great restaurants, local artisan shops.. a small and beautiful world in the already small Umbria. I personally think the islands (three in total, but one is private) are stunning and definitely worth a trip with the suggestive ferry. George Lucas seems to think the same as he bought, some years ago, a huge villa in the area... if you are lucky you might be eating gelato next to Liza Minelli or Steven Spielberg as it recently happened!
