Babilonia - one of the safest in the favelas of Rio, has two nice hidden gems with absolutely stunning views:
• Estrela da Babilonia - Address: Address: Rua Dona Alexandrina 91B, Morro de Babilonia, Leme.

When you get up in the favela, you take a motobike taxi, say barra Estrela da Babilonia or Bar do Alto. Bar do alto is best on Sundays with live music and good food, and Estrela da Babilonia Friday or Saturday.

My venue of choice for some of the best underground sounds from national and international artists and bands. Circo Voador is a legendary Lapa venue. The beautiful, palm tree-lined outdoor terrace is filled with tables and chairs so there is plenty of room for kicking back with a beer, but the sunken dancefloor is the real treasure.
