Entertainment & Activities

New Orleans is full of live jazz music, and there are plenty of people who swing dance to it! Crescent City Swing is a great dance school where you can drop in and take a swing dance lesson. They will teach you the basics so that you are ready to hit the dance floor. There is also a dance in the studio in Thursday nights called St Claude Social. It has a $5 drop in lesson from 7:30 to 8:30pm and a $5 dance from 8:30 to 11pm. The people are super fun and welcoming! No partner required.

Drinks & Nightlife

The Historic Carver Theater has good jazz shows on Wednesday nights. It's got a lounge and a bar - the ideal place to site and listen without the hustle and bustle of a bar!

If you want to take a walk, I highly recommend strolling over to the levee, taking a left, and walking to 40 Arpent Brewery. The beer is great, and the view of the sunset from the levee can't be beat!

If you want to have a semi-fancy dinner, Bacchannal is one of my favorite places to go. You select cheeses and wine when you go in, and then they bring you a cheese platter with bread and pickles and whatnot. The cocktails there are also great. They usually have live music outside, or you can sit upstairs.

Arts & Culture

The New Orleans Airlift houses the Music Box, which is a really interesting venue not far from my place. It's an outdoor set of experimental music structures. During the day you can go and play around with sound, and in the evenings they often have musicians come in and do performances. It's a really cool space, I highly recommend it.

Food Scene

My favorite inexpensive and healthy food is at Sneaky Pickle. They use all local ingredients and have a mix of vegan and meat dishes. It feels like home cooking, and it's always delicious!

Horn's is my all-time favorite brunch spot in New Orleans. It's set in a beautiful neighborhood in the Marigny, a short walk from Frenchmen Street and the French Quarter. The food is outstanding, and lots of dishes have a Southern flair. Vegetarian friendly!
