A rarity, a fine dining wholly vegetarian restaurant. The owners are lovely and very friendly and the food is so good even hardened meat eaters will be impressed. All the food is prepared on the premises from seasonal produce and presented in a formal manner. I'm salivating as I write this.....its that good

A lively pub with a permanent buzz. Ideal for watching the rugby or football internationals, or picking up a burger (which are great). It has a separate restaurant on the middle floor and a very chilled out lounge on the top floor.

A great place to ea local "Tapas" type nibbles and drink very fine wines. There is delicatessen and wine shop below the restaurant that does great cheese.....yum.

With panoramic view down the Buttermere valley, Fleewith Pike can be accessed either from Gatesgarth or Honister pass. Remember to take a full waterproofs, clothing appropriate to the weather and map, compass (and know how to use them).

A walk around buttermere lake, voted in the top 5 walks in the uk in 2017.......can't say better than that. 5 miles of relatively flat walking on made paths, often busy in mthe middle of the day, but first thing in the morning and later in the afternoon and you might have the place to yourself.

YHA Black Sail is the remotest youth hostel in England. As the destination for a walk or a place to stop in on the way past, Black Sail is beautiful. Well worth a visit.

At the north end of Crummock water is a National Trust Carpark, with a path leading to the Lake Shore. Its great for open water swimming, skimming stones and drinking in the view down the Buttermere Valley.

Blake Fell provides the skyline to Felldyke Bunkhouse and can provide on a clear day stunning views that take in: Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland, the feint shadow of the East Coast of Ireland, the Isle of Man and the western peaks of the lake district.....not a bad panorama. Remember to take a map, compass and the correct gear and equipment to suite your party and the weather.
