Kornati National Park covers the bigger part of the Kornati waters. Because of their exceptional landscape beauty, interesting geomorphology, highly jagged and indented coast as well as because of rich communities of the submarine eco-system, the islands were made a national park in 1980. The Kornati archipelago, as a separate and special island group located between Šibenik and Zadar islands, covers the area of about 320 km2 and includes about 150 land units, located either permanently or frequently above the sea. The archipelago makes 12% of all the islands in the Croatian Adriatic – 1264 islands, 67 of them inhabited. It has been long attracting the attention of yachtsmen, divers, mountaineers and other nature lovers.

represents a unique wetland area on the Croatian coast. Its vast reed beds and narrow belt of floodplain grasslands spread throughout the ornithological reserve are most valuable in terms of biodiversity, and these areas are also important bird habitats. In addition to the reed beds and floodplain grasslands, a wide range of different habitat types can be found in the park. The greatest value of this area is the ornithofauna. A total of 234 species of birds have been recorded, and of these, 102 species nest within the park boundaries. This area is of international importance as a resting and feeding area for migratory birds. Namely, populations of 140 bird species from central, northern andvransko-lake-nature-park-holiday-house-sibenik-01 eastern Europe use this area as a stopover on their annual migration routes. According to some estimates, between 20,000 and 200,000 migratory birds inhabit the park area each day during the autumn migration, while occasionally this figure increases to 400,000 birds.Vransko Lake is also a very important wintering and nesting ground, especially for wetland bird species. The reeds in the ornithological reserve represent the only nesting groups for herons in the Mediterranean part of Croatia. This is a regular nesting ground for the purple heron Ardea purpurea, while other heron species can also be found nesting here occasionally.

Barone fortress is located south-east of St. John’s fortress and a couple of meters lower than St. John’s fortress. It was constructed in the same year as St. John’s fortress, in 1646 and it contributed very much to the defence of the Town of Šibenik from the Turkish attacks in 1647. For a long time it was named the fortress of the baron Degenfeld, after the Venetian soldier of the German origin that lead the defence of the town from the Turks.
