great hiking spot for kids - you can go through the glen (up the hill and to the right after you cross the river and railroad tracks) or you can go up to the tower (if you head left). There is also a trail opposite side of the river that is a quick walk into stockbridge (if you go up the hill) - on busy days its a lifesaver in avoiding traffic and parking issues.

Great spot for swimming in the summer - its a bit more of a hike from route 7 so it is less crowded usually than spots in Great Barrington.

While you are in the area, you will mostly need a car. At the property, you can easily walk to most things in downtown great barrington.

Trustees of Reservations
I would highly recommend getting a Massachusetts Trustees pass for a year - it will save you a ton getting into museums, historic homes and hiking spots (parking). It is a great value even if you just go to 2-3 places.

North American Reciprocal Museum Association
Another thing to book (not just for this trip but for all of them) would be a NARM pass. This gets you into several local museums here for free and also likely ones near your home so it is useful after your trip.
